The European Union (EU) has developed cultural policy initiatives that seek to promote cultural Europeanization with the purpose of constructing European identity narratives and facilitating citizens’ sense of belonging to Europe and the EU. The article focuses on the citizens’ perspective to cultural Europeanization through ethnographic research on one central action in the EU cultural policy, European Heritage Label (EHL). The idea of a transnational cultural heritage has become topical in Europe because of the new EU heritage initiatives, such as the European Heritage Label scheme. EU on viime vuosina käynnistänyt monia hankkeita ja toimia yhteisen kulttuuriperinnön vaalimiseksi Euroopassa. Suomi ei ole mukana unionin tuoreimmassa ja sen kulttuuriperinnön lippulaivahankkeeksi kaavaillussa Euroopan kulttuuriperintötunnuksessa. Suomen kannattaisi aktiivisesti hyödyntää kyseistä toimea ja olla mukana keskustelemassa siitä, mitä eurooppalainen kulttuuriperintö voisi olla. Euroopan komissio on jakanut vuodesta 2014 lähtien Euroopan kulttuuriperintötunnuksia erilaisille kohteille.
